As a celebration of cultural heritage and talent among a modern generation of artisans and skillful craftspeople, NEW GOOD is a confluence of new expressions, found. Come visit, discover heirloom objects, and learn about contemporary challenges— and inspirations — to their craft.
The Boiler Room is a place to find and connect with one-of-a-kind creations by artists whose work, stories, and values inspire us. As part of Playmountain East, a year-long exploration of the work and processes of Japanese and Japanese-influenced artists and markers, we’re thrilled to host NEW GOOD and works from five craftspeople and designers who make their passions into beautiful objects.

MEGANE ROCK
Daisuke Amada of “Megane Rock” is based in Sabae City, Fukui where he manufactures world quality frames that account for 95% of all Japanese optical frames. Using celluloid, which is one of the densest materials, frames are durable without requiring a metal core. Daisuke doesn’t believe in “trend” and continues to create based on what he thinks is best, that provides maximum comfort for longtime use.
Lue
Based in Setouchi City, Okayama, Luca of “Lue” makes brass products such as cutlery, stationery and other accessories. Fond of its calm and deep patina developed over time, Luca finds that they only improve and becomes more beautiful with use and time.
41st century
Based in Tokyo, Kurahashi of 41st century used be a sofa maker — but for the love of his cats, he designed and made playful tents for them. Made of cotton canvas and bamboo poles that keep it light as a feather.
Oy
Founded by Akiko Oue and Ryohei Yoshiyuki, Oy is an accessories and product label. Though founded in the Netherlands, their work now breathes fresh air into the local creative community of Osaka, Japan. Inspired by “tools”, much of Akiko and Ryohei’s work revolves around materials and daily items.
Craft_one
Craft_one stocks their online shop with attractive array of lifestyle goods with thoughtful and functional designs. Their original brand Concrete Craft offers an expertly-curated concept of “well-designed goods”.
