Craft from Kyoto | Shibori Tie-Dyeing Workshop

June 21–June 23 | Heath San Francisco

Shibori tie-dye is a technique popularized in Japan 600 years ago. It’s been used by the shoguns as a means of creating beautiful patterns on fabrics and kimonos.

In this workshop, kimono dyer Shinya Takeda of ANDO Co. teaches guests how to use this tie-dye technique in order to create Japanese furoshiki, a cotton wrapping cloth.

Choose your own colors and use the ancient shibori tie-dyeing technique—often seen in intricate kimono patterns—to create a one-of-a-kind furoshiki.

This workshop is part of the Craft From Kyoto showcase, where we’ve invited a group of skilled makers all the way from Kyoto to share their craft with us in San Francisco.
