Two artists, one family, and a new body of work from their shared studio.
Akio & Ayano: Father and Daughter is a celebration of the traditions that endure from one generation to the next.
We’re honored to share that, for the first time, Akio is sharing a new collection of work alongside his daughter, fellow ceramicist Ayano Shioya. To celebrate the launch in person, Akio Nukaga is returning to San Francisco.
Join Akio, Ayano, and Heath in San Francisco for an opening party and sale event on July 27 and a special talk and throwing demonstration on July 28.
"I am inspired by her work because it’s a different approach from mine. It’s great she has found her own style in ceramics."

In Person Sale and Opening Party
Akio & Ayano: Father and Daughter will be on sale at the Heath San Francisco showroom on July 27, 2024. The sale begins at the Opening Party at 4pm—be the first to bring home a piece of the new collection.
The Nukaga family, Akio, his wife Masako, and Ayano will be in San Francisco to share and celebrate this momentous collection. On Sunday, July 28, 2024, the Boiler Room will host a throwing demonstration and talk with Akio and Ayano, alongside their longtime friend, Tung Chiang.
Our friendship with Akio spans time and distance; throughout 76 years of Heath’s history, there hasn’t been as special and unique a collaborator as Akio. We are honored to call him a friend, and to welcome him and his family back to San Francisco.
For those far away, we’ve set aside a selection of pieces to be sold online at a later date. Stay tuned for more information!
