Heath SF | May 18–June 18, 2019
Sarah Wertzberger plays upon a wide range of color combinations in an unforgettable way: traditional patterns are interrupted, and technique, intuition, and materials steer final outcomes. Testing boundaries, traces of the making process — decisions of pattern, color, and material — shine through: from pillows and one-of-a-kind blankets to framed art pieces.
An artist and designer with a multidisciplinary studio practice, Sarah creates functional textiles that span hand, industrial, and digital weaving, highlighting tensions that exist at the intersection of art, design, technology, craft, and hand. Her work at the loom, in particular, is an ongoing investigation into the physical, performative act of making.
Sarah received her MFA in Textiles from Rhode Island School of Design. Based in Portland she currently teaches in the Fibers department at The Oregon College of Art and Craft.
Come see how the process informs her work in unexpected, unique, and beautiful ways.
