Summer 2025: Field Notes

Field Notes: A record of observations, experiences, and insights gleaned while conducting research in the field.

Summer’s collection asks you to slow down and take note of the little things. Discover joy in the details, from the subtle sway of the treetops to the brash, brilliant blue of an unclouded sky.

9:04am: A cool morning. We find the lushest bit of grass and lay out a picnic.

Summer’s palette mingles sharp, saturated glazes with cooler shades. The effect is intense and refreshing—like plunging into the ocean after an afternoon in the sun.
A Shallow Salad Bowl in Seto with lemons and limes, accompanied by wooden utensils, sits on a Røros placemat. Nearby, a Hampson Woods cutting board holds a small Ramekin with lemon slices. Sunlight creates stripes on the table. Photo: Nicola Parisi
10:27am: Sunlight peeks through a dense canopy of trees.

Taking cues from a set of archival pieces, we reimagined the “Fade” technique across two multi-glaze finishes: Seto (named for the sea that surrounds Japan’s Art Islands) and Tule (named for the grasses that flourish in Californian wetlands).

12:10pm: Warm and still. In the distance, a blue-green sea sparkles.

Alongside favorites like bud vases, ramekins, and two-toned bowls, you’ll find some sweet surprises in this season’s collection, including the Teacup and Saucer in Nimbus and square Plaza trays in two sizes.

1:33pm: A coastal breeze cools the air. The light softens.

Building upon the season’s palette and special technique, the Heath Clay Studio team developed Round Bottom Jars in Tule and Seto, plus a Salt and Pepper Shaker set in dual-glaze gradients.

2:54pm: The sun begins to recede. Friends will arrive soon—what’s for dinner?

Our collaborators embraced this season’s palette and ethos across a range of handcrafted home goods: linens from Madda Studio and Skinny laMinx, garden utensils from Fabien Cappello, delicately woven textiles from minä perhonen, and many more.
