This beautiful pitcher is one of the designs the women of Tonaltepec created during workshops held with Innovando la Tradición. Each piece is hand built and fired in traditional stone kilns. When the piece emerges from the kiln the surface is quickly splashed with an ink made from charred cactus and oak bark producing the signature patterns this area is known for. Light yet durable, this pitcher is perfect for serving water or holding a display of flowers.

Each piece is hand built. Expect slight variation in size and surface color from piece to piece.

This item is not dishwasher or microwave safe. Avoid exposing the piece to sudden and dramatic changes in temperature. Wash your pieces carefully by hand with a mild soap before using them for the first time and every time after that. Put away only after the piece is completely dry. It's normal for these pieces to sweat a little when you first start using them. If this happens, soak your pieces for 24 hours in saltwater. For vases and pitchers, use a dish or a coaster underneath to ensure any excess moisture in the piece doesn’t seep into the surface underneath. Do not keep the piece filled with water for more than 3 days at a time.

The women of Rio Blanco Tonaltepec developed a number of different designs in the workshops with Innovando la Tradicion. They were also one of the first villages to join the 1050 Grados collective. Through this work these women have been able to keep their ceramic culture alive and inspire young people to return and stay in the community to continue these traditions.
