This charming spice shaker is one of the designs the women of Tonaltepec created during workshops held with Innovando la Tradición. Each piece is hand built and fired in traditional stone kilns. When the piece emerges from the kiln the surface is quickly splashed with an ink made from charred cactus and oak bark producing the signature patterns this area is known for. This shaker is shaped like a small woodland creature and is perfect for keeping salt, pepper, or whatever you can think of. Comes with a small cork.

Each piece is hand built. Expect slight variation in size and surface color from piece to piece.

This item is not dishwasher or microwave safe. Wash your pieces carefully by hand with a mild soap before using them for the first time and every time after that. Put away only after the piece is completely dry.

The women of Río Blanco Tonaltepec developed a number of different designs in the workshops with Innovando la Tradición. They were also one of the first villages to join the 1050 Grados collective. Through this work these women have been able to keep their ceramic culture alive and inspire young people to return and stay in the community to continue these traditions.
