Partners in Craft

Our seasonal collections are important pillars in Heath’s creative year. They give us an opportunity to go deep on a theme, bringing it to life through ceramic, but also through other materials and other makers’ hands. For our Winter Seasonal 2022 collection, we collaborated with many of our long-time creative partners to develop new products that spoke to this year's theme—a celebration of California's evergreen trees. The assortment spans the whole spectrum of greens that appear in our year-round forests, rendered in everything from glass to wood to cotton. Here's the inspiration and process behind just a few of the craftspeople in this season's collection.

Hideki Takayama | Mashiko, Japan

We are fortunate to share a long friendship with the Japanese woodworker and sculptor Taka, who lives outside Tokyo, where the countryside infuses his craft. “I grew up surrounded by nature,” Taka recalls. “My work now is connected to those memories. For this collection, I created forms from my view of nature, its inspiration and its blessings.”

Àplat | San Francisco, CA

Àplat is an inspiring example of a company creating a product that leads with beauty and ingenuity, and builds sustainability in by design. Àplat’s reusable cloth carriers follow origami principles, using clever folds to form a sturdy container for transporting dishware, bottles, and picnic provisions. For the Winter Seasonal 2022 collection, Àplat created totes, aprons, and dish covers in a soft olive as part of the season’s green palette.

All Roads | Yucca Valley, CA | Chiapas, Mexico

All Roads home textiles are designed in the Mojave Desert, and handwoven by artisans in Chiapas, Mexico. “Nature is our biggest inspiration and sanctuary,” says co-founder and fiber artist Janelle Pietrzak, “So it was effortless to pull color from our surroundings— greens from pi\u00f1on pines and juniper; and specks of black and pinky tans from the large granite boulders in Joshua Tree.”

Studiopatró | San Francisco, CA

Designer Christina Weber makes useful, elegant table linens with patterns that add artistry to the table, but always play well with other pieces. Studiopatró’s products are designed for daily use and intended to displace disposable towels and napkins, creating a more resource-conscious option in the kitchen and at the table. For the Winter Seasonal 2022 collection, Studiopatró designed leaf motifs to as part of the tree-inspired theme.

Cedric Mitchell | Los Angeles, CA

Cedric Mitchell’s eye-catching work has become a regular feature of our collections, bringing bold, colorful shine that only glass can deliver. Mitchell’s designs are inspired by mid-century and Memphis Design traditions, graffiti art, and pop culture. For this winter’s collection, he’s created a set of bowls that reflect the colors of trees in different seasons.
