Heath + Askinosie: A Tasty CollaBARation™

How does one go about designing a chocolate bar? Our question exactly! Well, we began by providing the Askinosie folks with a bit of inspiration and a few Heath qualities to keep in mind as they work their sweet magic into our CollaBARation™: classic, but modern; nostalgic with something new; surprising flavor without shocking texture. After many, many trials and tastings, Askinosie landed on a deliciously unusual, dark chocolate bar that's Tanzanian in origin. Sweet, smooth, and a touch of savory, with tasting notes of woody herbs, sweet caramel, sharp pepper, and buttery avocado.

Our admiration for Shawn Askinosie, his family, and the company they’ve built, dates back several years, when we were introduced to him through friend and mentor, Ari Weinzweig of Zingerman’s. Not only has Shawn built a chocolate business from scratch (having previously been a criminal defense attorney), but he’s also done so with total commitment to fairness, sustainability, minimal environmental impact, and major community enhancement.
