Wool Remnant Hand Woven Rug 19

Madda Studio works closely with weavers in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, where weaving has been part of the culture for centuries. Each one-of-a-kind rug is woven on traditional looms with a cotton warp and hand-spun wool from Chiapas in the weft. The wool used is remnants and overage from other projects as part of their process to reduce waste. The result is a rustic flat woven rug with texture and dimension that is also soft to the touch and thicker than you would expect. The dyes used are made from plants and insects from around Oaxaca and colors are built up through successive dye baths that produce beautiful variation in the yarns. Regularly vacuum rugs with suction. Do not use a beater bar brush as this can damage the rug. Professional clean at least once a year. We recommend the use of a non-slip rug pad as it helps protect the carpet over the years and prevents potential slips. If a stain occurs, immediately blot it with a cloth. If the stain persists, use a solution of warm water, mild soap, and white vinegar to clean the affected area without rubbing. Rinse thoroughly to avoid soap residue.

Madda Studio works hard to reduce waste and reuse as many materials as possible in their process. This includes making dye from collecting marigolds from altars after the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos in November to using leftover yarn to make this collection of rugs.
