The contrast of sturdy dome over a narrow foot, give this pair an elegant tension. Inside each sculpture is a small ceramic bead. Pick up the piece, gently shake, and allow the twinkling sound to remind you of something you don’t want to forget. The surfaces are glazed in opposing matte shades dark and light with mottled textures reminiscent of organic objects. A beauty resulting from years of glaze research from Design Series' past. (The beads in this pair may periodically become lodged in the narrow foot. While holding the piece firmly shake vigorously to dislodge. You may also insert a needle or thin rod into the opening to free the bead.)

These limited edition one-of-a-kind objects are part of Design Series Eight: Listen. Sold exclusively as a pair. View the entire collection.

Avoid submerging, washing under running water or filling the pieces with water as it will be nearly impossible to empty. Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth. If necessary use a mild, non-acidic, non-abrasive dish detergent. Small bits of fired clay may fall out of the pieces as a result of the ceramic bead sounding against the vessel. This is expected. To minimize, when shaking the piece, do so gently.

Design Series began in 2013 as a creative pursuit. With clay as his medium, Tung Chiang explores a singular subject each year that culminates in a show and sale of his work. Throughout its eight years, several of his ideas have informed Heath's everyday product lines, from new shapes to dynamic glazes.

Loss and Sound

Each pot sings a tune. Sealed inside is a clay bead, sometimes two, even three. The beads range in size, and the forms are unique, so every listener hears their own song. Listening with your hands, the path of the bead reveal its shape. Listening with your ears triggers a re-centering, reminding us of the voice within—a constant, when nothing else is. This is the intent of Design Series Eight.
