Experienced sewers and novices alike, join us for a one-day workshop of all things stitching, taught and led by our friend Natalie Chanin of
Alabama Chanin. In the workshop, we'll discuss the physics of sewing and garment construction overall, practice reverse appliqué, and explore other sewing techniques — but no need to join the workshop to enjoy Natalie's work: swing by and say hello Friday through Sunday during showroom hours to shop goods related to the workshop and a beautiful selection of Alabama Chanin pieces.
Natalie "Alabama" Chanin is owner and designer of couture line Alabama Chanin. Her designs and hand-sewn garments are constructed using quilting and stitching techniques rooted in the rural south, and known for their beauty, sustainability, and local impact. Rather than choosing to outsource, Natalie launched Alabama Chanin in her home state, where she continues to create limited-edition, rendered-by-hand, jewelry, clothing, and textiles using a mixture of organic and recycled materials with local talent.
Her values embrace good design as part of everyday living — and are one in the same with our values at Heath — giving a modern context to techniques passed down, crossing generations, and embedded in community.
The workshop is suited to all levels. Guests will create a hand-sewn project from a selection of custom kits, so you'll take home something beautiful, too. Come along and spend the weekend with us as we welcome Natalie, learn a thing or two, and connect!
