A Bright, Crisp Palette

The updated Stan Bitters palette is an opportunity to bring a new mood to a unique collection. The four new glazes—Mid-Century White, Museum Black, Modern Blue, and Oat—expand the range of applications for this tile. While the texture remains earthy and robust, the new tones are distinctly modern. Together, the full eight-glaze Stan Bitters palette has potential in a wide variety of architectural settings.

Glaze Palette

The Stan Bitters tile glaze palette consists of eight glazes in matte, glossy, and unglazed on our Manganese clay body.

How We Make It

We worked directly with Bitters to capture the essence of his monumental ceramic murals in tile. The deep relief texture was designed by hand using wooden sticks to strike and shape the clay surface. Plaster was cast over the hand-formed tile to create production molds that hold true to Bitters’ hand-hewn style.

Who is Stan Bitters?

Stan Bitters' influence on California arts and crafts dates back to the 1960s, when he established himself as a Modernist sculptor who followed the lead of his material, letting the organic nature of clay show up strongly in the finished work. Bitters's ceramic murals, fountains, and sculptures can be found throughout California and beyond, in numerous public spaces and private residences. "I want as many times as I can to retain that look and attitude of clay and what it is."

Minimum – 16 sq.ft.
Samples – 4x4 Stan Bitters samples are available.
Joint spacing – Heath tile sizes are nominal dimensions based on our suggested grout spacings. Stan Bitters Tile should be installed without grout. However, a 1/8" or larger joint spacing between tiles is required to ensure that they don't rub together, and to account for size variation between individual tiles.
Glazed edges – available in matte glazes on short, long, parallel, and corner edges. Consult a Tile Specialist for specific pricing.
Tile thickness – 0.5", possible +/- 1/16" to the final measurement.
